Floor Mounted Versus Wall Hung Toilets

There are two ways to mount a toilet. In America, most private bathrooms have a floor mounted toilet. Some are predicting, though, that this will change, and in the future, more and more private bathrooms will be fitted with a wall mounted toilet. Both designs has its pros and cons.

Initial Cost of Toilet
The initial cost of purchasing the toilet is a lot cheaper if you choose a floor mounted version. In general, you can expect to pay $100 to $500 less for toilets of this design.

Visual Appeal
With regards to visual appeal, most people prefer the wall mounted toilet. Since the water tank is concealed, and the toilet bowl is smaller, with plumbing less visible, it is a more discrete design. Let us be honest, nobody wants a bathroom with a toilet attracting attention.

Ease of Cleaning
The bathroom will be easier to clean if you install a wall hung toilet. Since the toilet bowl is not actually attached to the floor, cleaning under it is easy, and there are no corners or creases where dust and grime can settle. Compare this to a floor mounted toilet, where filth tends to settle around the floor of the bowl.

Cost of Repairs
When toilet parts break, it will, typically, be a lot more expensive to repair with a wall hung toilet. This is due to such a toilet using specialized parts, opposed to floor mounted toilets that use standard parts.

How to Decide
Since there are cons and pros to both designs you need to find out what you put an emphasis on. Do you want a stylish bathroom that is easy to clean, and are you willing to pay for it? If so, maybe a wall hung toilet is for you. If, however, you don’t mind the look of a floor mounted toilet, and you would rather save the money. Well, then the choice is obvious.
