Shower Valves: Which Should You Pick?

Shower valves are important components of any shower system. They allow you to conveniently turn the water on and off as necessary. Apart from that, you can also use them to adjust water temperature according to what suits you. There are different types of valves that are now widely available in the market today. You can either have a single valve which is capable of regulating the water temperature and pressure or you may also have multiple valves that will offer you more control towards the water pressure and temperature. The type of shower valve that you need to purchase will greatly depend on your shower’s setup. It would be a good idea to ask a professional plumber on what type of valve should you install in your bathroom. These experts will certainly know what particular model of valve will go well with your shower system.

As mentioned earlier, you can only choose from either a single or two or more valves. The decision is always dependent on the type of shower system that you have in your bathroom. Single valves are best suited for showers that only have one handle. The valve will be connected to two water lines – one for hot and one for cold. Majority of single-handle showers that use a single valve allow cold water access when the shower is opened and then the hot water is slowly mixed with the cold water as the handle is opened further. As the handle is turned, the valve opens up more. This simply means that the more you open the shower handle, the warmer the water gets. When the valve is fully opened, the line connecting to the cold water will be completely blocked thus restricting cold water to flow and only allowing hot water to come out of the shower heads.

Meanwhile, shower systems that make use of two or more shower handles should definitely use at least shower valves. Unlike the single-handle shower system, the valve will be connected to two separate water lines – one separate valve for hot water and one separate valve for cold water. This kind of setup will allow users more convenient and easy control over the shower’s water pressure and temperature.
