Turning Dreams into Goals

One of my online niche blogging friends, web career girl, is celebrating her one year blogoversery today. She asked for others to share about their blogging journey or vision. I chose to share here about my journey of discovery about myself and my niche blog business.

For the past year my dream has been to make enough money working online so that both me and my husband could work from home. We have a business that I currently run from home and I wanted to turn that over to him while I created websites.

I’ve done a pretty good job of convincing myself that I was making progress toward my dream. I made money, a consistent amount, but not enough to turn my dream into reality.

Several things happened a month or so ago that made me take a hard look at what I was doing and where I was going. One of those things was a webinar I listened to about goal setting. Now I thought I was setting goals, but I really wasn’t, I was really just dreaming. I was maintaining what I already had established but not really making progress towards where I wanted to be. It became very clear to me that in order for my dreams to become reality, I needed to have a specific, concrete path to get there and I didn’t.

Now I know that goal setting is nothing new, I set goals to reach the point I was already at and I really thought that I was setting goals new goals. I really thought I had a plan. It’s funny sometimes how you can hear a message but you don’t really HEAR it. That was my problem. I don’t know if I was just ready to hear it now or if the way it was presented just clicked with me. Either way it made a profound difference in my life and the way I approached my business online.

I now have new, very concrete steps that I am taking to reach my new GOALS and I have no doubt that I will reach them. The results of my concentrated effort are already obvious as my online income has doubled in the last month. I am more excited today than I was when I first learned that earning money online was possible. In the past I thought my dream was a possibility, today I KNOW it is not only a possibility, but a reality that is happening every day. This will be the year that niche blogging will allow me to reach my new goals and I now know the sky is the limit on what I can achieve.

As a unique way of looking at what blogging really means, a few of us gathered together our thoughts on how blogging can change the world and our individual lives. This is what we came up with:

Can A Blog Change the World?” by Ruth: “Blogging as an opportunity to use your voice for what you truly believe in, changing your world for the better”.

“My Blogging Vision” by Lisa: “When I started blogging back in October of 2007, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I’ve seen a lot of changes in my life since then yet my vision for my blog remains the same.”

“My Blogging Journey” by Stephen: “Life has been a journey of twists and turns for me. As an introvert it has sometimes been a little bit too stimulating…if life has taught me anything, it is that the world is an amazing place with so many struggles, challenges, opportunities and stories from real people.”

“At the Speed of Blog” by Steve: “What I have seen in the way mankind has changed in the form of communication during my lifetime.”

“All About Me” by Donny: “All About Me – Well maybe not all. I wanted to take a minute and give everyone a chance to get to know a bit about who I am, how I got here, what I hope to accomplish and why I am looking to Internet Marketing and, more specifically, Niche Blogging for income.”

Why I Blog and Why I’ll Continue to Blog” by Michelle: Inspired by others who ‘care’, I got to thinking about the world we all live in and how we have this amazing communication channel we know as the World Wide Web: I wondered if by blogging, can I change the world? Here’s some of the thoughts that quickly came to mind”

Blogging Vision 2010” by Jen: “AkitaJitsu’s “Niche Blogging for Non-Techies” is all about answering technical questions about building niche blogs in a non-technical way. Jen (aka, Akitajitsu) started the blog a few months ago, and has written a plan for the blog’s future. She hopes this blog will become a popular resource for niche bloggers.”

“Blogging to Change the World – My World” by Leslie: “Blogging can be a hobby, something you do for fun. For me, it changed my world for the better. It made my life the dreamlife I always envisioned.”

Niche Blogging” by Loren: “Making goals, missing goals and maintaining blogging relationships.”

  1. This post is very inspiring – I can just hear the enthusiasm and real belief in yourself, something I need to hear. In fact, I’ve been going through one of those moments lately when I start to doubt my goals and my progress. I think I also suffer from not truly believing my goals, and just dreaming. I am so glad that you and the others decided to take part in my post, thank you!

It is always so inspiring to hear when people are really taking things to the next level. Goal setting in itself is one approach…I find it smothers my creativity and instead work on focus and dreams. In the end it gets you there and is a rewarding monument to what we can all achieve.

That’s great that you are already seeing a payoff from your efforts. Goal setting is something I generally do haphazardly as well – get the goal, but never think about the actual steps I am going to need to take to get there. This is something I definitely need to work on!

Isn’t it wonderful when you come to those types of conclusions that something needs to change or something needs to give? These conclusions are very enlightening and the business we decided to venture in holds so many possibilities. I wish you much success on your journey! :-)

  5. Fantastic to hear you’ve already seen results from your new way of going about things!

Enjoy each mini goal achievement too, celebrating our successes, no matter whether we missed the ‘deadline’ or not, is important for continual motivation.

I know that feeling of moving from ‘wondering, working toward, just sorta believing it’s possible’, to having a momentous shift where something just clicks and you KNOW the sky’s the limit! The sky really is the limit and I’m so glad to read that as your closing statement. You’ll see the opportunities everywhere now just begging to be brought to life, but some we just have to let pass us by otherwise we can’t manage any of them. More always come by though, that’s the fantastic part about it. ;)

Good luck with all your goals although I really don’t think you need it. Your enthusiasm, determination and ‘knowing it’s possible’ will move you along just nicely I think. :)

I have been on such kind of mentality in the past. But now I understand that goal setting will bring us nothing if we don’t act on it. I also discovered that fear is my number one hindrance in acting upon my goals. But it dawned upon me that by surrendering to fear, I will be wasting the opportunity of what I can truly achieve. :-)
